Energy – the great policy disconnect in SA

Several processes are underway to address the energy challenges of South Africa’s future.

There is an imperative to quite literally, keep the lights on, but the decisions currently being taken will affect the future environmental, economic and social quality of South Africa’s development. The global competition to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate global climate change also needs to be taken into account.

This article considers how various initiatives align with policy documents that will determine South Africa’s response to its electricity needs over the next 20 years.
