Understanding gender – study circle toolkit

People often say that relationships between men and women are too difficult to understand! Gender is one way of trying to understand them better. Gender helps us to see what our society expects from men and women, and how these expectations shape our relationships. Learning about gender enables us to free ourselves from some of these expectations and build better relationships. This manual will guide you as you explore the idea of gender and discuss gender-related problems in our society. It will also give you hopeful stories about men and women who have taken action, and will encourage you to take action as well. The aim of the study circle is to provide a free space for people to share their ideas and experiences and to learn from each other. This workbook contains: guidelines for • or ten study circle meetings; • tasks to do between meetings; • suggestions for how study circle members can take action together to address problems related to gender. See the workbook here.
