According to the East Africa Grain Council (EAGC), nearly 250,000 tones of maize were smuggled to Kenya from Tanzania in the last harvesting season. The record that is available in Tanzania shows that the country had sold only 4,000 tones of Maize to Kenya during the period. Most Tanzania farmers lack reliable market to sell their produce, and traders could easily cajole them into selling their produce to them even at cheap prices. Read this story here.
